The Mentor Self-Assessment is for use by mentors or managers to enhance their ability to help others develop greater insight, identify needed knowledge and expand their skills. The questions promote reflection about how important certain behaviors are and how well one demonstrates those behaviors in a mentoring/managing/supervising relationship.
Use the Self-Assessment:
In conjunction with mentor skills training to set new agendas for yourself as a mentor.
To share with your supervisor how the assessment has increased your awareness of key mentoring issues and solicit his/her feedback.
To review your assessment with your direct reports or mentees: You and they will benefit from discussing what you are doing well and what you can do better as a mentor.
We recommend that after mentoring for a number of months, you complete a second assessment to evaluate progress. We suggest you ask your mentees for input about your self-evaluation.
